When last we saw the Joker, he had plunged into the depths, apparently not to return. In reality, though, he was rescued by a yacht, left free to continue his criminal ways.
Two months pass..
Three men, moving like acrobats, commit a robbery and manage to escape Batman and Robin.
Bruce is invited to a party by a man, Darcey. Darcey treats his guests to a miniature circus performance. Three days later, the paper says that Darcey has been robbed. Of course he has, because the clown in charge of the miniature circus--is the Joker!
Batman realizes that the Circus is responsible, and he and Robin interrupt the circus's next performance, defeating the circus, except the Joker, who escapes. The two follow him to his lair, where a lengthy struggle ensues. At last, Batman drops the Joker down a trapdoor, "deep into the sewage waters running beneath the mansion!" Batman and Robin go home.
