I love this game so much. Played it for way too many hours over the years, including a big stretch of just exploring while using the game genie to give me invincibility and super jump. Incredibly good game.
Don't know when I first completed it. Some time in the nineties, I guess. I've completed it several times, over the years, including some time in late 2010--I've got a note in my game journal from 2010-11-14 that I completed the game 'a couple of weeks ago'.
In the Nintendo Players Guide, p. 32, it discusses the self-imposed challenge of beating the game without collecting any coins.
There are seven 3-Up Moons in the game, one in each world except Star World and the Special Zone:
The Lunar Dragon category requires the player to complete every exit, collecting each of these moons, as well as at least 5 dragon coins on those levels that allow it. Here's a run by mystakin from GDQx 2019.
The moon is in Yoshi's Island 1.
The 3-Up Moon can be reached with a cape. It is located above and to the left of the string of clouds with the 1-Up.
The moon is in Donut Plains 4.
The moon is in Vanilla Dome 3.
The moon is in Cheese Bridge Area.
The moon is in Forest Ghost House.
The moon is in Chocolate Island 1.
The moon is in Valley of Bowser 1.
