Some change has occurred before the story begins. This is the fanfic equivalent of alternate history

Usually, this means something substantial about the world or the story's setup is different. "Usagi woke up five minutes earlier in the first episode and missed meeting Luna" doesn't count. "Usagi was never born" might. "The Moon Kingdom is alive and well and ruling the Earth in the modern day" definitely does.
