Is This Tomorrow?

Squirrels are destroying Eisenhower's putting green, and Navy Lieutenant William Crowe is tapped to solve the problem, on account of a past success driving away unwanted starlings by playing sounds of distressed starlings over loudspeakers.

Unluckily, Crowe finds that the squirrels prefer to keep mum, until one of them actually speaks--in Russian.

It turns out that the squirrels are controlling the minds of various world leaders in order to get humanity out of the dangerous mess they've gotten themselves into.

There's no interesting idea in this story.
