Lois and Clark pursue separate stories in cities hundreds of miles apart: Lois is to investigate an electrical disturbance radiating from a swamp, and Clark is to interview a scientist whose lab has been subjected to threats and murders. Both turn out to be caused by the same villain, intent on getting his hands on the W-142 formula, a substance containing five million times as much energy as coal. The villain has a device capable of generating a powerful magnetic field at any chosen location, and he is ultimately crushed by metal drawn by his own device.
