Hawkman Rising

The Savage Hawkman #1 (2011-11)

Carter Hall--Hawkman. But he doesn't want to be, so he takes the nth metal suit out and destroys it--or tries. When he tries to set it ablaze, the form of a hawk rises up, made of the fire, and attacks him. He wakes, days later, in his apartment, with no memory of how he arrived.

Elsewhere, Professor Ziegler has found an alien shipwreck. Hall, a cryptologist, is brought in to help decipher the writings on it. But they've found more than writing. Inside is a mummified corpse that, upon being x-rayed, appears to be human. A sample is withdrawn from the mummy, and the blackish substance attacks one of the scientists, covering him, in a manner reminiscent of the Venom Symbiote. Hall attacks, but when he slices off a part of the creature, another forms.

Suddenly, the nth metal Hawkman outfit erupts from beneath Hall's skin. How? Unfortunately, the creature--Morphicius--is not so easily subdued. It intends to consume Hawkman's energy, and, when the comic closes, it looks as though it will be successful; armor like Hawkman's has appeared on Morphicius, and Hall is in bad shape.

Another story that doesn't tell us much more than "there is a villain". Not too bad, but not enough to go on. Wait and see.
