Sneak Peeks

Previews of three upcoming games:

  • The Adventure of Link
  • RC Pro-Am
    • Still called "Pro Am Racing", as of this issue. The preview does state "This game is a must for RC Car (radio controlled) owners!", but that's the only indication that the game has anything to do with RC cars rather than normal ones.
  • Dragon Warrior
    • This preview is based on the Japanese version, so it doesn't match up with the game as released. It describes the Dragon King being defeated by the hero Roto, and mentions passwords rather than battery saves.

You don't just play 'em, you live 'em.

This is a one-page ad for LJN games. Interestingly, the screenshots of the five games (Gotcha, Jaws, T&C Surf Designs, Major League Baseball, and The Karate Kid) appear to all be drawn illustrations rather than actual screenshots, and the UI elements, among other things, differ substantially from the games.

Pro's Corner

Two pages of tips for beating the bosses in The Legend of Zelda. Then:

  • Metroid
    • How to get to Tourian. The regular way, plus a trick: lure a Rio in, freeze it, and bomb yourself up to the door.
    • Rapid fire by pushing B and Select.
    • Bomb jump to get to high places without the high jump.
    • Jump up through walls by getting stuck in doors.
  • Kid Icarus
    • A chart for determining the position of items in treasure rooms.
  • Rad Racer
    • Course selection
  • Super Mario Bros.
    • "Invisible Mario gets coins": this one seems to be telling you to do a wall-jump trick in order to get to some coins.

Member Reviews

Reviews of several games sent in by readers:

  • The Legend of Zelda, by Arie Stavhansky, Austin, TX
  • Super Mario Bros., by Brad Wallace, Paris, TX
  • Metroid, by Ryan Amis, Cottonwood, AZ
  • Kid Icarus, by Darin Tietgen, Costa Mesa, CA
  • Rush'N Attack, by Dyno Darc's Rocky Mountain Nintendo Fun Club
    • Even amid other amateur reviews, this one stands out. "The main thing I liked about it is the music--especially on the sixth level. The ending credits were really neat, too." What praise!

Scores of Fun

The score table is very uninteresting, this issue. A stack of maxed-out SMB scores, and a couple of scores each for Pro Wrestling and Excitebike. More interesting is a report of a two-year-old, Nash Day of Albuquerque, NM, playing SMB. "In fact, he's so hot, he made national television.", it says.
